Smart Corner Club: September 2007

Welcome to Smart Corner’s Blog!

Besides the great lectures and all the best facilities students receive in MM UGM, the best advantage of being an MM UGM student is the student clubs. Seems odd at first knowing that a graduate school like MM UGM has student clubs. Are graduate school students too old and too professional for these clubs? Do we still have time for these social events?

Those words above are very common for MM UGM freshman. Not to forget me myself. But usually by the time a student passes pra-MM and starting trimester 1 you get the need to want to know others in this one of the best business school in Indonesia. Your logic starts to say that you are in the middle of the best and most selected people in Indonesia. You start to think that knowing these people won’t hurt and one day when you’re in need of help will save your career or even life in the future. And finally you think that this is maybe your last chance to meet and befriended with people that would be true to you. Thinking that in the working world who will be truly true to you?

So, this is where the logic of having student clubs in MM UGM make sense. Joining an MM UGM student club is not just an opportunity to actualize a hobby or thought, but its an opportunity to truly meet and know people. In simple language, it’s a place where we can make friends!

From all the great student clubs in MM UGM, there is Smart Corner Club. Okay, we don’t have a cool name like the other clubs and don’t be afraid of the “Smart” in the name. The club is not just for smart people, so don’t worry.. Smart Corner is a club which works with actual businesses around its society in Yogyakarta. “Smart” is because in this club we have the opportunity to actualize business theories to practice. Working with a local radio station (currently I radio) club members have the opportunity to be business consultants to local businesses. Giving on air advice to improve or how to create a business.

Besides on air activities, Smart Corner also organizes off air activities such as talk shows, seminars and workshops dealing with actual business practices. Business theories and its practice are two different worlds which is always interesting to discuss. And that is what Smart Corner is all about, theories are just one side of the story, there is also the practice.

In Smart Corner we make every business possible to practice, every idea come true and making true friends is not just a theory!
